A brief review 

well there are number of know process but i will only be highlighting some misconceptions 

Welding

As the welding yielded similar results the blacksmiths believed that the damascus was produced by this method , which is not actually true .

The "modren damascus" is made from 

                        several types of steels 

                        irons 

welded together to form billet . The term " damascus" is currently used to describe the modern pattern welded steel blades ( which is still technically incorrect ) .

The pattern varies depending upon how the smith works the billet. 

The billet is drawn out and folded until the desired number of layers are formed
